Transportation in Puerto Vallarta
Taxis
You can find cabs throughout town at any hour of the day or night. Simply walk outside your hotel or towards any corner and make signs while one approaches.
Which is a right fare? That’s a good question; but, here are our recommendations:
In most of the cases the driver will give you the correct fare.
Nevertheless it is better to ask before entering the taxi and not at the end of the trip when is a little more difficult to negotiate. Also you can ask the people in your hotel, which must be the correct cost to go to the place you want; they must know the fares well. So, always ask how much is going to cost the trip before you get in the taxi. If you are near where you go, only a pair of miles would not be more than 30 pesos ($3 US dollars), perhaps a little more if you must go further on.
The taxis are recommendable and inexpensive, and you should not have problem with the prices as long as you ask how much it is going to cost before entering.
If you go to a restaurant, don’t allow the taxi driver suggest you to go some different place that the one you want to go, since probably he will take you to a friend’s restaurants or to one in which he receives a commissions that perhaps can not be of your liking, you are better off by trusting your hotel Concierge, he or she will see you daily during your vacation and he will be able to give you the best recommendation.
Local Buses (Camiones)
The buses are a very advisable way to take a trip into town. The buses here are from private property, and some ones see a little rare and strange. But they will take you were you want to go and you will be lost in the Mexican landscape when you travel. Please, don’t be surprised if a local artist approaches to sing for the lost love. The signals of the bus are blue with a picture of a bus and “La Parada” word means the Bus Stop. The present passage to enter the town from any part is approximately 5 pesos (50 cents US).
The buses marked “Centro” go Downtown. The ones that are marked “Olas Altas” and “Tunel” take the bypass road to Olas Altas (avoiding therefore downtown). The buses that go to the Airport are marked “Ixtapa”, “Las Juntas” or “Las Palmas”. The buses to La Marina, Pitillal, Mismaloya, Nuevo Vallarta and Punta de Mita are marked respectively with the name of the place they go. The buses that go south to Mismaloya or Boca de Tomatlán leave from Constitución Street and Basilio Badillo in Old Vallarta, or the Romantic Zone.
The most important recommendations is: if you are going to take a bus trip around the city, please get a good hold of the handle, cause some of the bus drivers feel like airplane pilots and they “fly” on the streets of the city, turning the bus into a roller coaster, but not to worry, if you hold well the handle surely nothing bad is going to happen, in addition we also recommended that always you always watch your personal belongings cause they can fall off the vehicle and it can be difficult to recover them.
We wish you an excellent trip to the city of Puerto Vallarta and Banderas Bay and please enjoy it! |
